What's in a name?

I call myself beesteagirl.

Yes. I do love bees, even though I am allergic. But especially the spunky tri-colored orange strip-y one that found it's way to the "rose garden cemetery" in my backyard. I like tea-- especially white teas, with hints of fruit and Celestial Seasonings does such a  great tour of their facilities. And I am indeed a girl. Really. I am.

However, my name has other origins.
See, I am a huge huge HUGE huge Beastie Boy fan. I really am not exaggerating here, but I committed myself to them in the 7th grade while dusting up my shoes on the playground belting out lyrics and thinking I had rights to "fight" for at the ripe age of 13. And it was true commitment when at age 14 I found myself at the middle school dance sweating it to "Brass Monkey"... whatever that was. And the loyalty was never to falter.

And so it goes, that among many of the names and nicknames that friends and family have called me, "beesteagirl" found a home and stuck. It also helped that with the onset of the Internet, I took over that login name as fast as can be claimed. Everywhere I went, I felt like a great tagger of the Wide World Web, putting my beesteagirl name out there and oh yeah, represent! And along the way questions would come up-- hence what brings me to this post. The two most popular: What does your name mean? Or Are you a Beastie Boys fan?

But first, why do they call themselves "Beastie Boys"?
The rumor mill says... that "Beastie" stands for
"Boys
Entering
Anarchistic
Stages
Towards
Internal
Excellence".
Please remember this is just the "rumor mill" speaking.

Second, if they are Beastie Boys, why are you Beesteagirl?
One concert tour a shirt was issued. The shirt read...

a pic of bees + a pic of a cup of tea + the pic of a boy

I dug it. I took off with the idea and... of course, put a girl at the end instead of a boy. Mixed tapes, art work, and letters to friends all got little drawings to identify the source. Me. It was on and I didn't stop. Of course those images aren't readily available when typing on a standard keyboard, so I recognized the need to spell it out. So I did, just like the concert shirt.

When my knitting business was finally started in 2010, it wasn't the first time I used beesteagirl on a entity of my creations, however it was the first time I licensed work under that name. I don't plan to quit. I'm on a role. See... I can't, I won't and I don't stop.

  1. I like knowing the origins of your screen name. I have often wondered on Rav and HC forums. And now I know. =D
